Christijan Albers confirmed his return to the DTM series on Saturday morning. The former Formula 1 driver became the series vice champion in 2003 with Mercedes but will now join Audi's Futurecom-TME.

For Albers it was uncertain whether or not the Dutchman would even return to racing again after splitting up with the Spyker Formula 1 team last season. He explains: "I must say I had a lot of doubts whether or not I would like to continue to race. I had a number of extremely busy years behind me and last year was an unfortunate end. I really had a time where I was having doubts if I wanted to continue being a sportsman for 100% since I had more time to spend with my family and friends. All of a sudden there was time to visit them again, things that really matter in life. But it is too difficult to quit my racing career with so many doubts. Quitting at such a young age in racing would be something I would regret later.
"One of the main factors in making my decision was to join Colin Kolles again and the number of people working at his team that I still know. With a number of these guys I already worked with in the past when I was racing in Formula 3, winning the championship in 1999. Working with these guys will certainly help me to enjoy racing again. It won't be an easy first year back in DTM but I will fight hard for it."
