In the closing stages of the second test, the 19 DTM drivers got the maximum performance out of their cars and the positions changed every second. Timo Scheider again set the fastest time in the afternoon (1:22.171 minutes), but this time, the Audi works-driver was followed by other drivers than in the morning. Second fastest was Paul di Resta with the AMG Mercedes C-Class. The Scotsman was 0.576 seconds slower than Scheider. Reigning DTM champion Mattias Ekström ended up third.
Eventually, Bruno Spengler was 0.014 seconds short of third place. Compared to the morning session, the Franco-Canadian improved his personal fastest lap time by 0.511 seconds. Scheider was also almost half a second faster than in the morning. „Starting a DTM weekend with two first places is a nice feeling," said Scheider. „Being the quickest twice with a considerable margin - I wouldn't mind if things continued this way. Our dry performance today was perfect. On the wet track we still need to improve a bit with the new car."
After light rain showers in the Magdeburger Börde region, the second test started on a wet track. Because of the low temperatures at the Motorsport Arena Oschersleben, ranging around 7 degrees Centigrade, it took long for the track to dry out. Oliver Jarvis was among the victims of the adverse conditions as he came off the track and landed in the gravel trap at turn 6 with his Audi A4 DTM with 30 minutes to go. At that time, the Briton was fourth. In the closing stages, Jarvis upped the ante once more, set the fifth fastest lap time and was the best-placed driver with a year-old car.
On Friday, Katherine Legge came out on top with her Futurecom TME-Audi A4 DTM in the battle of the ladies. In 15th place, she was two places ahead of Susie Stoddart with the AMG Mercedes C-Class. In between them, Ralf Schumacher was 16th in the second test. The six times' Grand Prix winner was 1.943 seconds down on Scheider's time. DTM record champion Bernd Schneider was the most productive driver on Friday afternoon with 41 laps. Mike Rockenfeller, who scored his first DTM podium here in 2007, did as many laps.
